hey all

I have a heater that is only blowing cold air, have read all the posts relating to this and have concluded that i need to flush the matrix - prob is cant find anything that tells me how to do it! Do i disconnect the pipe behind the valve in the engine and stick a hose pipe through that? But what else do i disconnect so the water can flow? Or do i disconnect the pipes going into the heater matrix in the cabin?

Havent seen it before but theres a pipe returning from the cabin which gows directly into the front left side of the head!

Cheers

Dave

Before you disconnect, have you opened the heater valve and then ran the engine without the rad cap on untill water starts the bubble up?

This will also show if the heater valve is working, which usually fail

You may just need to replace the thermostat. At least that was what cured a similar problem on my current Mini and the one I owned previously.

I'm having a similar issue so I did this and the fluid starts to bubble shortly after starting it up... but my heater hoses are still cool on the inside...

Should I flush the martix?

By flushing the heater matrix with a garden hose, you will prime the circuit and hopefully purge it of any air locks.

Take a look at this previous thread: http://www.theminifo...ix#entry2974693

ok thanks, I'll give that a try. I just wasn't sure what the cap off & bubbling was indicating.

Which way does it flow? From the heater valve on the head, it is going into the matrix that way, or is that the return?

*edit*

Figured out it is from valve --> matrix.

Coolant flows from the heater tap to the heater then back to the engine (bottom hose).

Didn't have time for a flush as it started snowing, but I took off my heater valve and it was clearly clogged. Cleaned it out and hooked it back up and I can feel the hose in the cockpit gets warm now.
