Try getting one off again once it's been put on with a compound that sets. It's not that good an idea, that's why it was never done at the factory.

You could always run a bead of silicone round and wait for it to go off before assembly?

Dum dum or bolted panel sealer or strip caulk or whatever you call it. Mine was 3M and sold as bolted panel sealer. Regardless of name. the stuff you want is grey and comes in reels.

I got three reels through a local paint factor five years ago. It's great stuff to work with. It has a nice balance between stiffness and pliability. You can work it with your fingers without mess but it still provides enough adhesion to gum things in place. It isn't too runny or sticky and it's not something which cures (it retains it's original consistancy indefinitely as far as I can see).

Depending on where you get it it may be pricy but it's well worth seaking out and much better and easier than trying to use silicone or polyeurothane in a gun.

i use it at work (toyota garage)
it comes in a roll and its meant for fixing the moisture sheilds behind the door cards.
we get ours from wurth who are a workshop parts/consumables supplier
its good stuff.
i love the fact that if i need something to fix one of my cars i can go into work and just "borrow it"
it comes in very handy on a bodged crx

Or just call around your local B & Q or Focus DIY stores to see if they've got any suitable putty?
