is this legal??? puting 2 strips of black tape on each headlight in a cross. and is it any type of special tape or just electrical tape. they look alot better with the tape, like the race cars.

i will cut out a lot of light from your head lights and make your lights almost useless at night

this may look good on race cars, but it'll just be a magnet for the rozzers, and you will look like a richard.

Never been stopped for it so far, had various patterns and such and never once has it been questioned.
Wouldn't say it had much of an effect on the lights at night, could still see where we were going
And the tape used was just that electrical insulating tape, but make sure the surface is clean first or the tape will most likely peel off after a short while

Or just tape the unit up before you screw the chrome ring on - then it's clamped there.
I have taped lights on my 'sort of rat look' mini - love it.. and there's plenty of light:
