Just got back from our local HSBC. Been down to try and transfer my money into another account, ready for when ive got my building sociaty...

They were to busy to deal with me, and have booked me in for next saturday at 10am... :dontgetit:

Not 100% on this but I understand that if someone has transferred that money to your account by mistake eg enter wrong account number (ie customers error) then there is not a lot they can do, the bank can't force you to give it back unless it was the banks mistake.

This (similar) problem appeared on a consumer program on TV. A woman, in error, entered the wrong account number transferred £2000 (online - after clicking the are you sure these details are correct etc) and now she has been told unless the person it was transferred to gives it back voluntary then there's little she can do.

However as this is a large sum, it may fall under business (or large secure personal) transfers, which I think uses a different part of the banking system, therefore may fall under different rules and regs.

A while ago there was a woman in America who received a transfer which was meant for a Government bank account and was in the region of £2m, ended up she was only made to give 3/4 of it back :dontgetit:

Why is everyone getting the impression i haven't come across this money from a legitimate cause? :D
