I am currently restoring a 1992 rover mini cooper spi

After removing the front end i came across a component i have never seen before ( all my previous mins have been older models )

it is a plastic canister with two tubes coming out of the top and through the inner wing ,neither of the two tubes are connected to anything under the bonnet .

Can someone tell me what it is and where the loose tubes should be connected ?

Also should i remove the ECU unit before i do any welding on the shell and are there any other components that should be removed before welding .

Thank You
Maddog

It is indeed the charcoal canister, which is part of the hydro carbon emissions reduction system. It stores fuel vapours released by the fuel tank, which are then drawn into the inlet manifold when the engine is up to temperature and on over run

Cheers for that !! i will look for connections to the manifold and fuel tank to connect the stray tubes to

before welding i would enure you disconnect the battery more than any thing.

ensure there no wires around the area you are welding. tha might cause a problem lol
