the rear belts in the Mini just came diagonally across with no lap belt at all. The MOT man failed it because he said there must... MUST be a lap belt even if its only a lap belt. they re drilled the points which now go through the wheel arch....

My questions are as follows then

1, is that not a rust issue with the new screws?

2 what rear belts do everyone else have?

3 what can I now do about the big ugly hole where my belst were bolted?

im guessing it can all depend on what year your mini is.

mines an 89 and has the two rear belts with lap restraints also

My 1981 mini hl didnt have rear seat belts, it wasn't law for them to be fitted at the time, so passed MOT's fine. I removed the rear seat belts and seats (sponge bits) from my 1995 Mini as I have fitted bucket seats and 4 point harnesses so no one can get in the back,. this also passes the MOT with no bother.

Does yours not have the belt over the lap as well as diagonally then?

Well I dont want the striped out look but noone will ever sit there as I have the Mini for 2 person journeys and the MG ZTT for the heavy stuff but this didnt cut any mustard with the MOT man

take the back seats out then when it comes to MOT time or just get the proper seat belts

a 1991 mini should have two 3 point belts in the back and there should be captive nuts for these mounts under the back seat (at the back of the base and the bottom of the back rest)

Just diagonal.... wel it was anyway until the MOT man blundered in with his new holes... now its lap only and the belt at its smallest will only just secure a fatty
