15/16" AF
Use a socket, not an adjustable spanner.

Nope it's a 15/16" >_<

Don't use metric sockets on imperial bolts.

Absolutely right, especially with the smaller sizes.
To work on any Mini you do need an AF socket and spanner set.

if you're really stuck and cant avoid it, use a bit of shim with the 23mm to fill the gap

You'd probably have a harder job finding a 23mm than you would finding the proper Imperial size anyway!

The original sump plugs were 15/16" but many of the replacements, whether bodge job taper ones or better 'extended' ones are a different size. Find someone with a 1/2" drive socket set you could borrow and work through the Imperial sockets in there until you find one that is a good fit.

Make SURE you are turning it the right way - it's easily stripped - and that's a major repair to do it properly.

Yes -anti-clock - but it's amazing how some folks get confused when they are looking at it upside down etc! And when doing it back up - not too tight!

Mines a perfect 24mm fit - later Metro engines mind. I once stripped the thread on a sump by following the haynes book. I now do up by hand and check for oil leaks. So easy to mess it up.

23 wont fit:

15/16" x 25.4 = 23.8mm, ie 24 is the closest metric, however as stated, get a 15/16" imperial.
Ryan.
