SORRY for this rant but here goes. WHY are there so many people with an obsession as to how much their mini is worth  There seems to be loads of these questions latley! If you want to do a resto that is going to be worth a fortune when you have finished it do a barn find Jenson or a peerlees coupe', or if you really love your mini just love it and DAM the expence >_<

Im guessing this is because of me then...Its because some people, i.e. me, need a reliable car to drive a long way each week, need to actually get there and enjoy the drive not have a bad experiance. And some people cant afford that exspense.

Personally i think Mini prices are all over the place. After searching for about 3 months i found that some £3000 examples wher no better then my £1700 one i brought in the end. I almost feel i could stick mine on the internet at double what i payed and someone would buy it, because its a good car now iv done the smallest of work on it.

Car is only worth that someone is prepared to pay for it. More money doesnt mean more Mini all the time >_<

calm down a bit mate, take a deep breath! just joshin, a lot of them seem to be for insurance reasons! different models are worth different amounts, eg, an original cooper s, is worth a lot more than a 88 city E or something! but if it has been modified from standard, i.e cooper s parts put onto a 88 city, then it is going to make the citys value change, could be for the worst, could be for the better! but you need to know how much it is worth in order to get a decent and fair insurance policy!

Sorry if you got the wrong idea no it's not because of you just loads of similar questions, but if you want something thats garanteed not to break down then i'm affraid you'll have to walk. My daily (RELIABLE) drive is a new megan thats just been at the dealers after it devloped body vibration, an engine mount had broken, and what has reliabilty got to do with value, i have a mate with a TVR that spends more time at the dealers than it does on the road but he loves it !

Did you not see the last bit then? I can't afford to spend a few hundrew a month on mainting a mini to do over 300 miles a week nor the insurance if i had it mildy comfortable or half as fast as a modern reliable car. For example a diesel leon, its not viable for some of us.

very true, i've already dropped a few hundred on the car and over the next year i'll probably drop close to £700 on making it look perfect, with new paint and new seats, not to mention the £1000 i have to fork out for a years insurance, tax, and mot.

Important(ish) to me because of insurance.
I bought my CooperSport for 5.8k a couple of years ago. It's probably shed a grand or more since then in rust that's starting to appear in all the usual spots. The cost of repairs and maintenance doesn't worry too much, i fix everything I can afford to.

But if the worst happened and my car was somehow written off totally, I'd want to know my insurer will cover the actual trade value, and not just a list price. Most insurers would probably fork out a grand or thereabout, seeing a 9 year old rover, but I could probably resell mine for 4-5k at the moment. So in this kind of situation value is really important, and so is getting an agreed value on insurance (mine is a hopeful 6k from when i first insured it, I found it terribly humorous - should probably speak to them about that).
If someone is insuring a highly modded fast-road mini or pricelss mark1, they may want to know the value they should ask for as an agreed insuraqnce value.
