Two ways of doing this, other than dropping the engine /subframe out and lifting body off but as you mention a crane:
a) get hold of an a series lifting bracket - the old sykes pickavant ones are the best as the bolt to the head studs and angle the lump correctly
b) nylon loading straps or rope - right around the engine & box - you'll need an extra pair of hands to avoid body damage when removing - and remove dizzy entirely .

Where are you by the way? if on the offchance as Bristol local I've got the sp bracket - it's brilliant - no hassles ever!

I've been using a piece of angle iron for years... bolted onto the two long rocker studs.

I have 2 home made lifting brackets (L shape) which hang off the rocker studs.

Trouble with the two brackets idea is - it tends to bend the studs towards each other. The angle iron bracket is brilliant!

I use two longer short head studs at either end of the head so i can get a braket on them

anchoring here causes the engine to tilt back so you can get the diff out more easily
