Well i'd do abit more reading on the kits. They can be fitted to bog standard engines, but then again depends what sort of power you want and what the car will be used for?

they are more worth the money than nearly all other mods if you look at the power increase you get for the money you spent.

i spent about 1700 doing mine and have gone from around 55bhp to 125bhp

you could spend 3-4000 on a 1340 engine or something and still not get that much power

Sorry to hijack, but how does fitting things like supercharges effect the resale value? I would have thought that you may have to spend more initially to get the same from an N/A, but would the resale value not make up for that? Being more original etc?

i agree with this i'm not thinking of ever selling my mini so this is a problem. although i'll think you will find supercharged minis dont come cheap anyway lol

just thought i'd add you can get the standard supercharge kit for 995 now but really you want a head because you gain so much more power

ive been looking into supercharging my 1275, apparently you can get upto 60% more power from a standard engine
for the money they are i think they are well worth it.
also, i think it would be a really cool thing to have on my mini. people have 1340's etc all the time, so its something a bit different

and think about that beautiful whistle
hobba hobba

also, who cares what your mini is worth. if thats all you think about when you want to modify, whats the point in having it

Sounds like your after quick bolt on power? yes you will get it with the whoopercharger but how long your engine lasts depends on the current state of it? It might seem fine now using it on a general runaround but your asking a helluva lot of it after putting this on?

It'll be money wasted unless you uprate the internals aswell? Maybe fun for a short time but whats the point?

Ideally a supercharger isn't a bolt on mod like most companies state.

Really you need to strip the engine down and inspect it. It needs to be in top order. You'll also need a decent transmission to cope with the torque.

I would say minimum, you'd need a fully rebuilt gearbox with a X pin diff and some straight cut drop gears for anything over around 110bhp.

To just bolt the SC on as a quick powermod and expect all the standard parts, which were designed to cope with 50odd bhp, to cope with all the extra torque is just daft really. When gearboxes and diff pins go, they go with a bang and have a tendancy to take half the engine with them.

Very good advice "mike", and one that my local Mini company always advocate. Also you will need to consider a brake upgrade, it's important to be able to stop!!

this is very true and obviously you have to be prepeared for this if you are going to do it.

i have a couple of friends that left the block and gearbox standard and have been going fine for a couple of years now

That's funny Steve as mini world quoted your power as 86bhp :withstupid: this month.
I have spent around £2k on what in pretty much a new 1293 heavily tuned and should be hitting over 110 bhp without most of the forced indution reliabity problems. Personally NA all the way with me.

I'd have to disagree there sleeper, typically speaking, a 120bhp supercharged engine can be very reliable, idle at a low speed, have bags of low down torque, and be easily used every day.

a 120bhp n/a A-series will be fairly lairy, high revving, awful to drive around down, and typically less reliable IMO.

I would rather spend the money on new bearings reground crank and upgrading all the internals than bolting on a supercharger to a old stock motor that can't Handle it. I don't use my mini every day
