Quick question, if a phono cable ends have been cut off, can i just strip them and connect/solder on some new connectors or is there individual wires inside them?

i belive that a phono cable does actually have two wires,
if you look at the ends there 2 tier, with usually a black piece of plastic on the connector.
so im guessing two separate wires, so many if each section is soldered correctly it should work ?

standard phono's are normally a pair of cables with a single wire (signal - connected to centre pin on phono plug) inside a braided conductor (ground/earth - connected to the outer ring of the phono plug).
i have known phono's using twin cables within a braid, check that the twin cables are connected together or one of them may be connected to the braid.
twin cable + braid are normally used for balanced signal cables in PA use, not generally used in car audio.

Sorted this now i just bought a new cable instead to be safe. Now my problem is that when i plug in the power switch into the amp for the sub, the power light, lights up then goes straight out. Basically flashes then goes out. When i first plugged it in it was on for about a minure then i switched it off and came back and nothing. Can someone help? The only thing i can think off is that its a bad earth. please help :)

check the voltage at the amplifiers terminals...make sure there's enough power there.

sounds like the protection has kicked in.....
check all wires for shorting
unplug the phono cables and see if it still kicks off
if it does
keep them unplugged and disconnect the speaker wires to the speaker
if it still does
run a new remote wire
then run a new earth
if it still does
run a new power cable
if it still does

its fooookd

Have tried it without the phono cables connected and without the speaker wires but still 1 up to the sub >_<
Will try what you've suggested tomorrow
cheers
