What Size Socket For Steering Wheel Nut. Please!

hi, i need to buy a socket or spanner to fit my new steering wheel in my mini mayfair 1988.

could someone let me know the size i need for the nut, so i can pick one up from halfords tomorrow.

1 & 5/16ths. Worth owning it does other bits too.

Top tip aswell, when you come to take your old one off, apart from making sure everythings pointing straight ahead, loosen the nut to the top of the shaft then wiggle your wheel to to loosen it. By keeping the nut on you'll stop smacking yourself in the face with the steering wheel when it come loose unexpectedly:)

Top tip aswell, when you come to take your old one off, apart from making sure everythings pointing straight ahead, loosen the nut to the top of the shaft then wiggle your wheel to to loosen it. By keeping the nut on you'll stop smacking yourself in the face with the steering wheel when it come loose unexpectedly:)

Mine is a 1 and 5/16ths, although I have seen a couple of smaller, nearer 27mm, nuts used too.

mountney wheels are a nightmare to get off.

and it is 1 n 5/16
or 34mm depends which you see first.

it is also the same size socket for the tower bolts on the subframe

1 5/16" is 33.3mm
That's quite a difference when we're talking rounded nuts... >_<

ye i done it and remembered my mate said about leaving the nut on i think everyone does it you think you will be carefull but it still happens

Halfords dont go that big, they stop at 32mm. any ideas where i can buy the right 1 5/16" socket.

Real tool shops or Mini specialists. Look at Mini spares.

hmm in that case my steering wheel nut might be smaller..because my mate bought the right size socket from halfords

halfords do go above 32mm. or they do where i live! But they were gonna rip me off so didn't bother and bought one for cheaper elsewhere!
