Right guys and girls ive just brought a 1275 engine block with pistons the bores look to be rebored as theres no lip or scores to any of the 4 bores, but the
pistons i got with it are all coked up so ive cleaned one to see the numbers and not sure what ive got.
I want to no what a standard 1275 piston size is.
Also heres some numbers of the pistons i have.
T-175-9335-T
JGO 0.03
71.34MM This is the piston size
Also has stamped in +.03

Anyone shed some light on what i have.

The block itself is stamped as below
12G 1279

If they are OE pistons then I would of thought they would say 'std' somewhere on the piston crown?

Paul.

Hey Mate,
Looking on the net i can find that the 1275 standard bore diameter is 70.61mm, so i'm guessing it's been bored out but not that far i think.

Cheers mate, hopefully see you tuesday :D
Must be oversized pistons as there 0.73mm bigger than standards, the engine bores look newly rebored but the pistons are used and all coked up also there
dished so these may not be the right pistons needed for the block, anyone no how i can measure the piston bores accuratly in the block.

You have a re-bored engine bored to +0.030" which gives a capacity of 1301 cc.
The pistons should be dished and the dish volume should be about 8 cc.

Many 1300 GT engines ( out of the Austin America type car ) ended up with a +.030 bore.... The problem is the +30 piston rings are very hard to come by especially if you have a 4 ring piston.

If the bores are in fair shape, then you have the choice of finding +30 rings, or boring, boring to +40 is a possibility or anything higher....

Just looked at your other thread, it's not a 1300 GT block ( it's not drilled for an 11 Stud Head ).... I would suggest at some stage in the past it's been subject to a factory recon, hence the + 30... Nost likely something like an allegro or possibly a 1275 GT engine.

Yeh the pistons have 3 rings and 1 oil scraper and is a 9 stud block so i might just have it bored to +0.40 or just sell it on and go engine conversion route, cheers for everyones help anyway :-

Will a standard mini gearbox fit an Allegro block, also will most other a series engine parts fit it.
