One day my minis fine, the next day... nothing

I'm in the middle of a rebuild... Over night my mini has stopped working. My lights are not working, no power at all. I know that my battery is fine. A few things I have noticed is this.

- mini will not start as usual
- mini can be jump started by connecting to the battery in the boot
- if i take battery out and bring it to the front of the car and connect earth directly to motor and positive to solinoid switch? :- it will not go
- my jumper leads have a light on them to show that it has power from the battery. as soon as i hook it to the mini the light goes away.

HELP... i'm lost.

cheers

Sounds like you have a short somewhere.

So many things (all cheap) to sort before you can diagnose the 'actual' problem.

Bad battery earth strap in the boot. Bad earth strap in the engine bay.
Bad boot seal (which will allow moisture in and therefore cause a short).
Alternator (let's hope not).

SO many more...

If it has a stereo of any kind disconnect it completely and from everything.
Do the wipers park properly (if not do a search on this forum).

Got a nice clean fuse box ?
Got all new relays ?

All cheap and all essential to check / replace.

Best wishes
Monty

I agree, I was going to blame the onset of cold weather...however I have just noticed that you're from down under!!!

(is it winter there too?)

We are in the middle of spring. Its not the battery. I'm sure of that. Something is earthing out or no earth or ... something.

Why are you sure it's not the battery? It sounds very much like it is.
