i have a 79 leyland with a 998cc A+

i want to install a set of auto meter traditional chrome guages(Water Temp, oil pressure and tach) the water and oil are mechanical and the tach is electrical

my question is since AM guages come with NPT sensors and i think the mini uses BSP threads do they make an adapter or what do i need to make these work

DKLawson may be your man for this Q, he seems to have a somewhat encyclopaedic knowledge of all things gauges. If no-one gives you a timely reply might be worth dropping him a PM.

Thanks for the nod Newdawn.

I don't know what is available in the way of adapters. The head will be tapped 5/8 UNF (5/8-18). The AutoMeter senders may be either 1/8 or 1/4 NPT. I THINK (but have not tried this) that you could core an old Mini sending unit and tap its body for the NPT threads.

A second possibility is to buy a 3/8 pipe adapter bushing and re-thread its OD to the 5/8 UNF threads. The large UNF die is not likely to be in your kit but you could certainly ask a machine shop to re-thread the bushing for you.

If you buy an AutoMeter fuel gauge, be sure to select one that is close to correct for the Mini's sending unit. Look for one that has the nominal range of 240 Ohms = empty to 33 Ohms = full. That's an industry standard that will be close to what the Mini sending unit provides. It won't be exact but it will probably be close enough a match that you won't mind any errors.

a 1/4" npt thread will work in the minis block for oil pressure although the original ones will be 1/4" bspt.

I believe you mean 1/8 NPT, not 1/4.
