Hello all

i have just puchased a competion mini Hill Climb Car, this mini used to belong to Steve Harris and was prepaired by B.J Autobits. I will be converting this car so it can compete in Tarmac rallies and other events. I have no idea if this engine has ever been re-built since arriving in Jersey (in about 2001) and since I will be using this car in a two day tarmac rally I need to ensure that the engine and gearbox is ok. But I dont know who to use, so who would you recomend to re-build a competion engine?? and what sort of price would I be charged. I know the price will all depend on the condition of the engine and parts used but I just need some sort if idea of costs.

Many thanks

Kevin

Try it out! Is there anything wrong with it ? Is it going well? Good oil pressure - no clouds of smoke ?

Thanks for the info guys. I have driven it and the two things I have noticed are:-

Crunching into first gear, when changing from first to second. Does this happen in 3 Syncro gearboxes? as i have only driven minis with 4 Syncro gearboxes?

The car had been cleaned before I took it out, after about 20 mins of driving I stop at a mates house and the back end of the car near the exhaust was covered in black sooty stuff!

Since this car has only been used in hillclimbs and sprints it only gets driving hard for about 53 seconds 4 x times and since I will be using this car to compete in a two day tarmac rally with about 34 stages some of them running for 5 minutes I want to have confidence in the engine and gearbox! And this car has been through quite a few people and i dont know how they have looked after the engine.

Cheers

Kevin

Have you contacted Steve & BJs?
He might be interested in keeping his old car running well and will probably know the engine spec/build/componenets.

I have sent a few emails to Harris motorsport but I have not had a reply back from them yet, guess I will have to give them a call!

correct I live in Jersey, this adds costs to the rebuild as I have to get the engine shipped to and from who ever I decide to use!

lol oooops >_< he builds quite a few engines for people overseas so wouldn't have thought shipping back to you would be an issue.

i really should start looking at where people are from lol

Would you like a can of worms to go with that question?

I'd avoid them at the moment.
