Hi my name is mark.
I recently brought an austin mini city 85 and wanted to add 13" deep dish wheels. It came with 12"x5 standard with standard tyres not low profile. My tyres have about 2" clearance on front and back, in front qnd behind the wheels atm.
Many people said id get away with the 13"x7 easy with low profiles but im unsure. I have read most forums but still not sure. I would like to keep the car as original as possible for resell value as is all original and in mint condition. Can anybody who knows please help me!!! Thanks
mark

13's aren't the problem it's going over 5 inches wide that means you need to cut

Okay thanks erm do you know which arches would be easiest and best for them? Either group 5 or sportpack?
Thanks

I have the 13x7 deep dish superlites, and yes you need to cut the front lip up to the top of the arch (tapered off to standard spot) pretty much. I cut off around an inch, but... they had already been cut afor 12x6s I think, so... you may need to cut more.

You do not need to cut at the back of the arch.

I have group 6s, but group 5s or sportspack will also do, depends on what you like the look of the best.

is there anywhere where i can get some sort of template to mark out where to cut the arches and best ways to do it.
would it be a good idea to get a garage to do it?
this is the only thing i was majorly worried about.
the first is a photo of the rear arch and there is some sort of bracket that is rather close to the wheel.if need bee is it safe to possibly grind away abit of it to make a bit of space?

second photo is or the front wheel and arch just so u can see.
third photo is the whole car just to aks for an opinion on which arch would suit itnot sure about sport arches really but just not sure what to get ?
thanks mark

that bracket is defo needed, its kinda holding the radius arm on so dont cut it off! the wheels should fit the rear without any cutting me thinks. dreading cutting mine just incase i mess it up.

Back one dont need cutting and the tempates can be download from either mini sport or mini spares website i think.I trimmed about and inch of mine but i used the last 1/2" to bend inwards. If this makes sense i cut 1/2" off first then the 2nd 1/2" i nicked upwards and folded out then welded then cuts back up to reform the lip and give the front wing some stregth back.
Hope this makes sense

okay yeh makes sense. cheers will just have to find some one that can weld and get some sheeting to put stips back over the bits of metal to help strengthen the lip.
im not planning on doing it soon just in a couple of months time wen ive got enough money for the wheels so if i find problems ill let you know
thanks guys

You dont need to weld anything back on if you do it properly, mark out with templates or by eye, the arch line on the wing, then with tin snips cut vertical slits every inch or so to the marked line where your going to trim, then fold the metal upwards on the line you just drawn then trim off access metal on the edge.

Hope that makes sense  .

Paul.

makes sense in theory, but when it comes to fitting the arches is there much that can be covered up, basically if i mess up the cutting a bit could the arch cover the mistake??
