Hi,

Was wondering what is the difference between these two clutch plates?

Linky 1

Linky 2.

Also I am leaning towards a pre verto set up and have been told to go with an orange cover and a rally clutch plate. Will this be fine for everyday use?

Lastly I believe my engine is on a standard bore and it needs a rebore. Is it safe for me to assume that a rebore +20 will be okay? Im asking this as I want to order the pistons before I take the block so I can have the pistons fitted to the rods at the same time etc

Thanks

Also the engine will be putting out around 70-80ish bhp so do I really a rally plate?!

I doubt it. Why not just go for the Cooper S/Metro Turbo spec plate? It's a darn sight cheaper!

I would definately go for a pre-verto set up, the orange diaphragm is fine for everyday use as long as you don't suffer any weakness of your left leg. I'm of fairly light build & I never had any trouble with the 'orange'. As said before a Metro turbo / Cooper 'S' plate will be more than adequate.
In answer to your first question, the second plate shown is a stronger version for really hard use.

I have this clutch kit already

Linky..

Am I right in thinking the clutch plate included is the same as this one?

Linky..

It also comes with a blue diaphragm, can I use this or should I go for orange? The car will be in everyday use. I've read one of Calver's articles and it says

BLUE - Fitted to all big-bore engines and all Cooper S’s. This is more than adequate for most road cars, even up to 1380/1400 units putting out 110bhp.

ORANGE - Classed as the Rally/Race type, and the first of the non-standard types. Use on serious road burners developingover 110bhp, and stroker motors producing monster torque over 95lb ft. Advisable to use rally/race clutch plate if this is the case.

Basic specs of the engine Im thinking of is 1293cc, Stage 3 head, Sw5 cam

Thanks

Most probably.

I'm using this same clutch plate in a MED 1380cc, V-Wedge head, 286 scatter cam.

I've been told that a Blue spring/clutch cover instead of an Orange will be more than fine for everyday use with the expected power from specs. Is this the case?

Sorry, don't know anything about the pre-Verto pressure plates. I run Verto in both my Minis.

That would be the set up I would run, and did run in my 1380. Nice road going, not like an on/off switch like the harsher stuff. Will also cope better than any of the standard kits when you are a bit more agressive with it

Your block would have to be pretty bad not to get away with a +20 rebore.....
