Photographed in Blackpool, sometime in the mid-1970s. Custom Car Magazine show (as I recall) at the Norbreck Castle Hotel's conference hall.

A bit much for today's tastes, methinks, but that's what we were doing back in the day. Well, that's what they were doing... I was only fantasizing about customizing like this once I could finally afford a Mini! Talk about shades of 'Life on Mars'! ;)

Forget Life On Mars, that's a 'Sweet' 'T-Rex' Glam Rock blast from the past.

I can remember around that time (yes I'm that old, I know it's hard to believe ha), seeing a silver Mini (round fronted I think) with smoked out windows sitting up on a podium at the old Leo's supermarket in Pyle (that place was big and had everything from food at one end, to records (LP's) TV's and stereo's (record players) at the other.

That Mini was in a special competition to be won by the Leo's customers and I think my parents entered the competition too. Sad I didn't take a photo now, or at least got my late Dad to take one if he'd had his camera.

If your folks had been inclined to purchase issue number 1 of Custom Car, and entered to win, your family might have become the owners of the rather fab Mini Clubman below.

I would have been a bit young myself (only 9). Besides, I was into American tin at the time.
