put the mini for an mot the other day, it failed on four things.

front brakes
hazard lights don't work (really annoying)
fuel leak
emissions.

now with the emissions ive recently fitted a stage one kit to my 998 just wondering if theres much involved as a way of a tune up or
would it be best take it somewhere, the hydrocarbon content was too high, any ideas?

thanks

If you've fitted a stage one kit, including new needle without resetting the mixture, then chances are it needs weaking, the stage one kit needle do allow more fuel through.

You really need a gastester or colourtune plug. What CO reading did you get ??

depending on year the legal limits are 3.5% or 4.5% for older cars, For a stage one on tickover you really want to be around 2.5 - 3%

If you've got no testing gear then probably as well find a local rolling road and go have it set up.

ok cool, on the mot it said 5.0% i believe.

i dont have any testing kit at all so a rolling road would be best would you say?

i thought i would need to take it to get it setup.

Your not actually that much over , your profile says 1981, so limit should be 4.5%. If its running OK to get it through the MOT I'd just adjust the mixture a bit.

Probably 1/2 a turn of the adjuster would be enough drop that level down.

But yes rolling road would be the ideal option.

yeah i was a little surprised when it failed on that but not knowing what the actual carbon contents were thought was pretty good.

just need to sort out the hazard switch now changed flasher units on both indicators and hazards indicators now work hazards have just gone dead.

thanks for the advice mate.

Always get a full rolling road after fitting a new needle and / or stage one kit, this will optomise evrything and get it running sweet,if your not sure on how to adjust the carb take it to somewhere or someone who does as you could make it worse!

Honestly if its just .5% out you need to adjust jet up about 2 or 3 flats, like lrostroke said..What needle have you fitted along with the kit?

That's a decent quote. I paid £100 at Gerald Dale a few years ago and I thought that was a bargain for the results that it gave me!. Make sure that includes needle profiling/new needle though.

they did say it includes parts if needed, and you get a map too!
