I am going to be gearing up for a Vauxhall swap in my 1000HL soon and am wondering....do the 1.8L engines share the same mounting points as the 2.0L engines do? I have read (on the Vauxhall owners forum) that the C20XE and the X20XEV share the same block. But I have also read that the 1.8's share the same block as well.....I read a thread where there was an Australian guy that had stripped his 1.8 (I think it was a C18XE) to swap heads and other bits to make it a 2.0L. Also, on the Allspeed site their Vauxhall subframe (for the "Big Block" engines) states "Classic mini conversion parts using Vauxhall large block 1.8 and 2.0l , 8 and 16 valve". I will be using a professionally made subframe (similar to Allspeed's) so I am wondering if I can't find the right 2.0L (be it C20XE or X20XEV) would a 1.8L fit? Sorry if this question is vague or has been asked before. I DID search and couldn't find where anyone has asked this.

I know people like to say "Stay away from the Ecotec and get the Redtop" but I gave it some thought and well....why not run the Ecotec? They are newer, there seems to be more of them for less money and with less mileage to boot! Right now my Mini puts out 37BHP and the 2.0L Ecotec puts out approx 137BHP. I know the Redtop puts out 150BHP stock but I could make up the difference with an ecotec running ITB's, aftermarket exhaust and a Megajolt. Anyhow, are the 2.0L blocks similar to the 1.8L regarding the engine mount locations? I just want more options!

Hi. Your best bet is to go on the conversion section of the forum. There are literally 1000's of subjects and willing helpers.

Conversion section on this forum? I would have posted in that section of the forum but it says "For project threads only......" I didn't want to post in the wrong place. In fact I used one of the mods links that lead me from the conversion section to this section.

I think the only difference between the X20XE and the C20XE is the cylinder head. The redtop seems to go for more money, but as you say comes with more power as standard, 155 without a cat. Dont know what the torque difference is though. Speaking of torque, well done for making the choice to go Vaux :D

One of my main ideas to go with the Vauxhall was that it's British! When I take my Mini back to the US when we PCS from here (in 2012) I want to tell my buddies that it has a "Vauxhall Engine in it" and of course they say "What's that?" Lol! And I'll tell them it's a British GM engine. I guess I thought I want the car to maintain it's British status.....not have a Japanese engine in it! No offense to the VTEC guys! Those are great cars too but I want my Mini to still have a British heart! It's the principle of it. Cheers!

Yeah, get on 16v :D . Some really good builds on there. VTEC's are really good engines, but Vauxhalls are real mens engines :w00t:

Harber07, your from Suffolk?! I live in Suffolk! Cool! Maybe sometime during my build you could stop by and give me some pointers. I'm overwhelmed when I think of everything I have to do by myself!

Yeah, I'm from Suffolk :w00t:

No probs. I've only just began my conversion, and currently building a C20XE lump. Should be good for 200+ bhp once finished. Let the fun begin :o :D
