Since doing a few jobs on my Mini it hasn't been on a proper drive, and since I had the some time off work I thought I'd visit a few friends at uni in Bangor. And if I got there and back without incident it would silence a few critics...

A bit of recent background first. I had a small fire behind the dash which took out the voltage stabiliser, so no fuel guage or temp gauge. Also, I have had a coolant leak in the engine bay, but it is only evident when the car is moving, making it difficult to trace, but I think it is the heater valve. Not an urgent problem, I just had to top up the coolant a few times. And I recently had to repair the clutch master cylinder, there was clutch fluid leaking down the pedal.

Apart from that it's tip-top!

Anyway, got up to Bangor yesterday afternoon, a bit deaf, but alive, and proceeded to get incredibly wasted. Big mistake. :(

So by just after noon today I was in state that allowed me to drive, but with incredible discomfort. MY MINI IS FAAAAR TOO LOUD!!! Eventually I felt a bit better and decided to leave the A5 and go over the Berwyns, seeing as the worst of the weather was over, and I found some great roads! Try the A494 between Corwen and Bala, and the B4391 from Bala to Llanfyllin.

I got to the top of the Berwyns and took these.

What's that familiar shape in the distance?

The only thing that made the journey home eventful was when I lost the radiator cap... :( I improvised with the top end of a Fanta bottle, lots of gaffa tape and some zip ties. Proper job!

Hope all the work was worth it then!

Did that Mini towing that boat really drive by, by chance? Madness.

Great looking mini by the way

It made my day seeing that other Mini drive past, and yeah, I got a wave and a flash. The road is the one that goes from Bala over to Llanfyllin, but not Lake Vyrnwy.

Unbelievable. I've nicked that pic and called it "blimeyanotheroneinthemiddleofnowhere"

Would it have been sailing on Lake Bala do you think?

Good pics, you're lucky to have such nice roads close to you - all flat and crowded here in Norfolk!

Thanks for all the nice comments about my Mini, but I think there's a couple more photos I should show you before getting too carried away....

First, is it normal to have this amount of tool and stuff in my car just incase of... well, anything?

Posted Image

And second, a little hole...

Posted Image

There are plenty of nasty bubbled bits on the front end to keep me busy (rest of the car isn't too bad at all). My thinking is that it was caused by a stone chip, but my Dad thought it could just as easily have been a moderate gust of wind :genius:
