I have a 1971 mk3 mini1000 that has no reversing lights
I have read that reversing lights are not nesessary but still i feel that its a valuable safety feature
Can anyone suggest the best way to install reversing lights?????

I really want to buy light cluster with a reversing light, will this work???
Can anyone tell me how to wire it all up????

I am installing a manual reverse pull lever into my pickup soon which does not have a reverse lamp. Looks like it will just connect live side battery, neg onto good body earth.

Looking forward to turing it on while setting revs quite high in traffic then going forwards.. >_<

I got no reverse light, just use my fog light instead. Works so far. But my car never had a reverse light to start with.

You can add the switch to the selector easily enough & the later light cluster will bolt straight on. There were also accessory reverse lights if you want to keep it looking original.

Should be remote. They got rod change in 1973.

Thanks Taffy (by the way, where have you been lately?)

OK, for remote shift gearboxes you need to find the parts used on the ADO16 cars. They had a remote shift gearbox and came with a reverse light switch. Their switch mechanism can be fitted to the Mini. The switch and its related components replace the reverse gear detent components which are found on the front of the gearbox just below the oil filter.

Take a look at the JPG in the link below. I made this sketch to record the reverse light components and/or how to improvise them when you can't find them. I believe it was GraemeC who directed me to holden.co.uk as a source for the switch. Go there and in the part number field type 34887. I don't know if they have the other parts listed in my JPG... but they are simple enough to improvise once you have the switch.

You'll have to make up the wiring for the switch but that will not be complicated.
