I bought a flywheel puller last weekend, on Tuesday night me an a mate decided to try it on the mini engine, then we thought we'd take a few more bits off, then it was 11:30 and the engine was completely stripped!! :genius:

Looking for a bit of advice on the rebuild of it, can anyone out there help me with as many or as few of the following??

(Like being back at school here!)

1) See clutch pics, should I replace it? Engine's done 98k and I got no idea how original any of the parts are, I've done about 2 of those miles!
2) Gearbox, how does it look? anything I should be replacing, the 2 cogs on the far left of the pic have slight wear in the centre, it's so uniform it almost looks like its meant to be there though?
3) What's caused the oily deposits on the top of the pistons? Tired valve stem seals?
4) Any value in replacing the Cam? it looks ok, but not sure what to be looking out for?
5) Planning to replace:

* Clutch Maybe?
* Con rods
* Big end and crank bearings
* All gaskets and seals
* Piston Rings
* Timing chain and Gear kit Simplex or Duplex?
* Valve stem seals

Thought about cleaning up the engine block & cylinder head, getting them lightly skimmed, and then rebuilding the engine with the above?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Why are you replacing the con rods? They're expensive...

looks like its been running a bit rich to me, the only way you can check a cam is by measuring the lobes with a micrometer(expensive bit of kit!), why not fit a fast road one??
id fit a new clutch as a matter of course, they only cost £30 or so for a kit
cant realy tell if gearbox is ok from pics, have you driven the car with this gearbox in?
replace as much as you can afford to whilst the engines in this state. its far easier than doing so with it in the car

Figured the engines done 98k, if they fail they'll take everything else with them. (bit of a perfectionist)

Also read an article on wikipedia and it scared me!!

Yeah, that was my attitude, anything else I've missed that's worth replacing?
