Hello, we are new to this forum, my son having just bought a 1990 mini off ebay which supposedly had all the welding done, can anyone tell me if its possible to replace the inner rear wheel arches without having to remove the outer panel? and the same with the repair panel on the inner wing where the door hinges bolt on? I think my mig welder is going to be working overtime!!

Thanks Mike

Pics help by the way :D

The rear arches in not sure about but the front pannel i think you on about is either the a-pannel or the flitch. The Flitch is a wing off jobby and the a a-pannel i think you can get away with witout taking other pannels off.

rear archs are a pain to fit, you can do them without removing rear quarter just makes a difficult job harder

Thanks, its the flinch that will need replacing, I thought the wings might have to come off, its a shame as they are both new and the car has had a decent respray

I've added some pics, hoe he could say there was not rust I don't know, it looks like he removed the a panael on the driverside and platted the flinch and removed the wing and a panel on the passenger side, again he platted the flinch but did'nt put a hole in for the air vent before replcing the panels!

Why would somebody not mend it properly and put a nice coat of paint on like that?

Crazy.

personally for the inner arch, id cut the rusty bit out, weld a new plate in, then use a wirebrush on a drill to clean the arches before painting them, im pretty sure you can access this area from inside the boot, its structural because its near the shock absorber

rear wheel arch you can do without taking the quarter panel off. its easier if you do the whole arch with susension mount not just the outer half but easily done. whe fitch panel you can do just by taking the a panel off. leave the wing on. the hole for the air vent he's oviously just plated over instead of getting a repair panel. i've just done these on mine and the panels were only about a tenner and so easy to fit then.

The picture of the inner arch shows just one of the holes, there's a bigger one near the edge

inner rear arch use the bmh panel and cut to suit and weld in, if arches are going on the car then no need to repair rear qtr, front inner wing a bit more difficult

In what order would you suggest I fit the flinch, inner sill and front floor pan? I was thinking sill, flinch then floor pan

i would personally do the fitch first then the floorpan and sill last just cut them out one at a time and weld the new one in before going on to the next. this wya you keep the strength of having most of the panels in place especially the sill which creates a lot of the strength of the body
