Hi Guys,

I recently put a 1275 in my mayfair, upon getting it setup on the rolling road i headed on down to malvern on sunday, i got down there without a problem except the temp just keeps fluctuating. And it didnt like sitting in traffic

I have bypassed the heater for the time being as its is leaking terribly, all connections to the heater are tight but it continues to loose coolant out the over flow. I think the heater maybe no good. what are the main signs that the heater is knackered??

I will be looking into getting a new one. which one would peeps recommend as there are quite a few with different cores, im guessing the more cores the cooler it will be.

It also does not help that i have very large rally malps on the front restricting a lot of the airflow in the grill.

Any advice would be great.

Sam

Errrm ... you tried flushing it all and checking the thermostat works?

I mean before you dump your wallet on something your car might not need.

Ah, I gotcha now.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it unless the car is bellowing steam and death, I has an issue where my temp gauge just maxed out. Turned out it was just some wiring. If you can wrangle it either get a mech temp gauge and hook it up short temp or use a thermometer to check the water temp. Down side to the thermometer system is that you'd have to open a possible scalding hot water system.

Then again a new rad is only £30~40.

One minute you are talking about the 'heater' - then it's the rad ? Hard to follow! Lose the big lamps would be the first move - and what value of thermostat is it ? Has the engine been set up properly ? I got a good improvement in cooling my engine by fitting a smaller water pump pulley - made quite a difference on hills.

The heater matrix is buggered so i have bypassed the heater for the time being, but when the rad and engine get up to a high temp, the rad looses water when the pressure builds it seems to squirt out of the over flow at the top and cover the bulkhead in brown water, i asked a few friends last night and they said the heater may have a blockage that is why the pressure is building up.

I have checked every heater hose and there are no signs of leaks from them.
