Model:sprite 1275cc
Year:1993
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):one indicator works one doesnt

Hiii..

OK heres my dilemma, until recently all my indicators were fine, but i decided to buy new bulbs anyway and fit them, so i took all bulbs out, got them mixed up, tried fitting new ones and now only my rear RHS indicator works! The left side repeater and front work BUT they flash TWICE as fast :S
Im lost!

Not even sure what order bulbs go to be honest.. think its top - indicator, middle - brake and bottom - sidelight ?
Could be completley wrong, and excuse my ignorance if i am!
Also, do one of the bulbs have a double filament inside?

Help much appreciated!
Thanks

The bulbs that have a double fillament will also have two contacts on their base and will fit into the socket with two connections visible on the round plate at the bottom of the socket (the middle one of the three). Twin fillament bulbs will only fit propperly one way round because the little pins that stick out of each side are at different hights and have to coincide with their appropriate guide slots. If a bulb doesn't easily twist into place take it out, turn it 180 degrees and try again.

Twin fillament bulbs are used for stop light and tail light in the middle hole in the light unit.

Reversing light (at the bottom) and indicator bulbs (at the top) are both single fillament.

If your L/H front and wing lamps are flashing twice as fast that is a indication of incorrecty impedence and will be because the L/H rear indicator lamp is faulty.

Just one other thought... are you replacing your ordinary bulbs with LED ones because I had problems with those that I had to sort out.

If one of the lamps in the indicator circuit fails they will flash twice as fast. That is a byproduct of how the flasher unit works in early cars but has been kept on in electronic flasher units as a warning to the driver that a bulb has failed. This is something you are supposed to know about if you've learned to drive, it's part of the electircal systems of all cars! Never mind though, you know now.

The stop/tail has a double filament (didn't I tell you that just yesterday? And tell you that you only had to change one bulb? Or was that someone else?). The top lamp in the rear cluster is the indicator, the middle is the stop/tail and the lower lamp is reverse.

djshongo...You've obviously got a (or even a few) bad connection(s) somewhere.

I would sugest that you wiggle the wires and connections about and see if things faulter and then you can locate the problem and fix it.

Also try wiggling the bulbs themselves, a favourite problem is corrosion inside the bulb holders themselves especially if the rubber gasket is missing from between the lenses an the lamp unit. The best way to clean them is with a piece of scotch cloth (the rough stuff on a washing-up sponge) wrapped around a thin stick.

If you don't check this out you run the risk of the bulb not working whilst you are driving which could very easily result in an accident simply because the guy behnd doesn't know that you are turning or braking.

Do the Hazzard lights work?

If so it is more than likely the relay (flasher unit) which you will find behind the dash board above the steering column. I'ts usualy a round can shape but I have seen square ones and it will have twowires attached to it.
