Hi,
I recently fitted a 2nd hand JC S-Wrks kit to my Mpi - head, inlet, exhaust etc. It came complete with the full inlet side - ie throttle body, injectors, sensors etc. All seemed in very good condition but the engine has never run correctly since. It lacks power, gives very poor fuel consumption and most notable, it has very sluggish throttle response.
If you blip the throttle the engine is sluggish to respond and it takes a few seconds for the revs to drop off again and settle back to idle. The engine also sounds like it is 'hunting' at idle.
I suspected a faulty sensor affecting the mix and having a spare set from the original set up which was working fine before I took it off the car, I set about swapping them out. So far I have changed the MAP sensor, IACV and the Intake Air Temp sensor. No better, no worse!
Hoping someone has had similar issues and can suggest a few more things to try as I am starting to pull my hair out.

Do you have access to a scan tool reader that will allow you to check(adjust) the stepper and reset the adaptive settings of the ECU?

Both the Crypton ACT and the SP ACR4 have this capability. Perhaps someone close to you has one of these tools.

Thanks for the suggestion - I always understood that the ECU was self adapting and would adjust to new components over a relatively short period of time.
However I agree it would be worth checking for fault codes etc - I'm in central Scotland - anyone out there with a reader??

Any other suggestions anyone?

Thanks

The adaptive functions are a bit of a mystery to me. I am not sure how long it takes to "learn."

As I have an ACR4, I have reset the ECU several times, especially after major changes or rebuilds. It seems to speed up the process. It does run less than ideal initially, but seems to quickly "learn" at that point.

I am afraid I am too far away to be of much help. Hopefully someone will chime in close to you.

My MPi has the Minisport upgrade package which was similar to the JCW and Minisport may have actually provided some of the components to Cooper Garages, but I have no real confirmation of this.

I would sort out what you have before adding anything else.

Shame these scanners are so prohibitively expensive when OBDII ones are so cheap nowadays.
When digging around for scanners I came across these guys and a pretty useful page of info on the MEMS2:

https://www.blackbox...help/SM072.html

Still hoping someone local with a scanner will spot the thread and respond. I'd be quite happy to pay for a session on a scanner.

The Crypton ACT and the SP ACR4 show up on ebay everynow and then at a pretty reasonable price. All they do is augment the information available to the trouble shooter with the exception of setting the stepper and resetting the adaptive parameters.

The link to the Black Box site with the ECU information is a good one that I had not seen before. I had looked at the Rovacom a long time ago, but as you say it is expensive.

Just keeping this fresh in the forum. Anyone out there in Central Scotland with an Mpi code reader?

Thanks!

I had similar problems with my MPi when I first aquired it and after changing almost every sensor and getting the injectors cleaned and calibrated it turned out to be fuel pressure as the orginal regulator O Rings had perished and did not seal properly. Fitted a PBV form Minisport and got it set up on the rollers and now runs great - just a thought ??
