Hello
I now have a 800w vibe a1 amp and a 10" pre amped vibe sub in my car and I wondered whether the standard 45a alternator (79 model) will be alright or whether I will have to upgrade to a 75 amp alternator?
Thanks
Greg

your standard alternator should be fine but as with all my mini's, i upgrade it to the higher power one.

45A alternator is good for around 400W RMS of power. That amp doesn't kick out that much so it should be fine.

540 watt rms at 12 volts
650 at 14.4 volts
You will be fine.

as monkeybiz, your alternator's not just powering your amp, there's other gear sapping the current (even the battery itself will want a charge for a while after the starter has taken a fair amount). If i were you, i'd have it changed.

Okay well getting my electrical problems fixed tomorrow i.e.heater, brake lights, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge :/ will see how much this sets me back and then look at upgrading the alternator if it does not cost me too much hopefully will be cheapish as my dads mate has a car service garage and dealership and and is doing it for me.

Should work fine imho.
Now for a little thread hijack - anyone know where I can get a regulator for a standard 65amp MPI Alternator? Mines throwing amps/volts around all over the place and I dont fancy paying out full whack for a new one!
Watso.
