Really as title.

Our power went out at 11.45 pm on friday and didn't get fixed till early hours of Sat morning. Well over the 24hrs that seems to be the point at which you can claim?

Utter PITA, no TV(or x-factor..................yay!!!)/interweb/heating/lighting etc.

Got a ruck of freezer stuff that we're a bit suss about eating.

I know I can claim on the house insurance but don't really want to lose my no-claims for the sake of £150.

Anyone ever claimed straight off the 'leccy company?

thats not 24hours is it?or am i missing something? :P
you can only try speaking to the supplier and asking about there policy for such circumstances.
i'd suggest trying to get your neighbours onside too :) that should aid your cause.

nah thats all good (i wasn't trying to be picky)
but like i said i'd try and get some neighbours on side as they may try and fob you off if it's just you on your own.

During July we were without power for a week due to vandalism, it was 99% of the Dartford area and some surrounding areas. Eventually we were offered a token sum of £50 (yes a whole £50) for inconvenience. Most of my friends were paid out the £50 but they turned me down as they said the power had been turned on for 1 hour (ONE WHOLE FECKING HOUR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT when we were asleep!) and that sorry but I didn't qualify.

I had 2 freezers, no hot water, sweet *lady garden* adams in fact! I couldn't even go to the gym for a shower as they didn't have power either. Luckily it was during July and the days were long and we lived on salad and bread.

We've given up with any further claims which I know if the wrong attitude as it is like me saying to them, well never mind it doesn't matter, but I simply can't be bothered to argue any more with insurance and the electricity company.

These are the regulations regarding compensation. You need to read and understand regulation 4 I think and then look up your supplier in the table to see how much compensation they are bound over to pay. Each supplier is different because of the difficulties in supplying electricity in the Scottish highlands compared to central London for example. You are pretty much entitled to £20.00 for less than a 36 hour interruption with most suppliers and there are myriad ways they can wriggle out of it. You will be far better claiming from your house insurance for the contents of your freezer, although again if the freezer wasn't off for more than a couple of days they might not pay because if you leave the door closed a freezer will stay frozen for many, many hours without power. Home and contents insurance doesn't work the same way as car insurance, do you even get a no claims bonus with your policy? Home insurers understand accidents and the price of the contents of a freezer (which is usually a set figure in the policy) is nothing they normally care about when you consider that your whole policy cover is valued at many tens of thousands. It's like glass cover in a fully comp car policy, glass is fragile so claiming for glass usually doesn't affect your no claims.

good result, at least its a few pennies, i take it you didn't loose to much in the way of frozen goods or anything like that?
i didn't honestly think you'd even do that well, did you happen to find out what sort of time span is needed in order to qualify for the brucie bonus?

It wasn't quite that bad here, mind you the local pub had to cancel the fireworks display, does that count??

To be honest i wasn't that bothered, me and the pooch were happy enough on the sofa reading by torchlight, Mrs shifty was in bed with about 3 jumpers/hat/the entire damart catalogue!!

(and missed the x-factor :) :P :P )

I'm sure some of the things in our freezer are older than the kids - its a kinda ice-age scene in the back there - peas and sprouts frozen solid in mid suspension that may be anything up to 10 years old :) I think we need a couple of days power cut to prompt us intop de-frosting it and donating the mammoth chops to science.

* PS trailer thing very good, but new one from PPG only 200 quid more ! *
