lol, erm well i got my mini about a year ago almost, and i brought her for £750, then spent £800 paying my mate and gettin parts because all the under sills, inner and out needed taking off and new ones put on, an the same with floor pannels, and i got a new battery and alternator and stuff, but my fan belts come proper loose? i have picked up the haynes manual so i'm sortin that out, but i'm leaking oil at the same time? and alot of it, theres enough to stop my engine seizing up but its just no exactly what i need, an i think part of my engine has seized because i was drivin home last night an i could only push her to 50? on a flat straight? i think she was red linin early too, at like 3000 revs? sorry alot there i know but any help would be help!

cheers

:erm:

Welcome to TMF. Sounds bad to me... You actualy ran your car on no oil?

It must be one hell of a leak to loose an engine load of oil! Have you had a look to see where it's coming from?

Although by the sounds of things your efforts may be in vain as the engine may have already given up the ghost.

:w00t: well no, i check my oil before every time i turn the key, and i have loads of oil, but i think there may be like a blockage? if the oil isnt getting round the whole engine? i mean the dipstick tells me i have easy enough each time i top her up, but it still leaks? and i'm worried i cant get any power out of her at the mo. 50 tops? that really isnt right i've lost like 30 mph in a week and i havent done anything?

In which case your response should have been...

Hello, and welcome to "The Mini Forum"

If you would like Technical help with your mini Press 1
If you would like like a TMF CD press 2
If you would like advice on a value for your mini press 3
If you would like help with your BMW mini press 4 ( send them to a premium rate number;) )
or hold to speak to an silly chat specialist...

Ooops... Silly chat here we come...

Anyway... and seriously..

Sounds like a good service ( oil change etc ) would not go amiss. can you tell where the oil is comming from and also what the exhaust colour like ?

But to tighten the fan belt just adust the alternator ( loosen two bolts at top, and bot at bottom, and use big screwdrive to just move it out a bit... then retighten, there should be about an inch of slack/movement of the belt between water pump and alternator )

oh cool, well i knew i had to loosen the 2 bolts above the alternator, then theres that other bolt like in that sliding thingy isnt there? how do i get to that? because i've had a few looks but i just looked at it and i was like mmmm, i really dont want to take my radiator out...

and can i just loosen them then lift it up and tighten it or do i have to like do something else?

thanks for the help as well...

You should be able to get a socket on that bolt, use a metal pole (like a crow bar or something) to lever the alternator to get the belt as tight as possible, then redo the bolt up.

oh wicked, so i only loosen 3 bolts, and i can get to all 3 of them, use a crobar to tighten the belt and get someone to hold that while i redo the bolts yer?

cool, obviously since the alternator wasnt charging the battery i have a flat, should i just charge that with a charger then start it off that? will it start then? or do i need to bump start it?
