Its a 1978 so had the old syle seal, but now have the later type that goes around the lip,

I could barly close the boot lid, and now it does not close at all, i think it has bent the plate that the boot lock catches on. any advise :)

cheer mike

By doesn't close do you mean the lid wont move close enough to get the lock to engage (as in you can't push it close enough so it looks closed) or just that the lock wont engage properly and hold it shut?

i had to force it to get the catch to lock in place, but i think the pressure has bent something and now the lid wont stay shut.

Well all I can suggest is that you look at where the catch is meant to err.. catch and see if anything obvious is wrong. New seals are known for being a tighter fit when new and can take time to settle. If the new seal is making the lid sit slightly further out but still sealing then you may be able to modify the catch lip to suit. But might want to wait until someone else who's dealt with this before makes a comment.

Are you sure you've fitted the seal the right way around? They usually relax after being closed for about a week.

i think so, but saying that i dint know there was a 'way around', the problem is now the boot wont stay shut with the seal on :)

Thinking about it there probably isn't a wrong way around with the later type seal. Or if you did get it wrong it wouldn't matter, it just wouldn't seal. Did you buy it as a boot seal or off the roll from a trim supplier? It might be the wrong type. Do you have a photo?

mine was an absolute pain to close for around a month.. but it will settle in.

Mind you, i need to block up the holes for the clips in the boot lid - as fumes get sucked in through them at motorway speeds.

I got it from DSN classics and it looks like the one on the minispares website. It is a little to long so i will have to cut it - i assume this is normal? my main concern is the fact the lid wont sty shut as it looks like the catch - lip - thingy inside the boot is bent, but im not sure, an one got any pics of the place i mean??

chers mike.

I replaced mine with the old style seal a while ago and it was not closing and sealing correctly. I replaced last week with the new ones and it the lid did not get close to shutting. I managed to find where it is catching (at the bottom right hand side) so by slightly bending the lip I managed to close it (not fully sealed). I am hoping leaving it like that for a while should allow the rubber to settle, if not I am in the same boat as you.
