Hey guys,

Mini shell is finally gonna be shotblasted in a week or so, then primed straight away!

now then considering the primer is going on to bare matal, can anyone recomnd primers to use, such as red oxid primer or ETCH?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks Steve

Hi,

I was once recommended zinc primer but haven't used it so sorry!

Could you possible tell us where your getting it shot blasted and how much? It is inside and out? I just in the process of stripping mine and may consider it if its not to much £££'s

Cheers

Karl

Ok Thanks!

Well i have been quoted £200 for a inside and out shotblast and primer, and its being done by a company called "Ces Wise" in Bideford, there in the yellow pages under "blasting" :)

Were abouts are you based?

Cheers

Go for a zinc based primer, it may cost you a little more but the zinc in the primer prevents rust. If you feel the weight of the cans of zinc and normal primer it weighs about 2 times as much.

It essentially galvanises the panel....!

After that is done use brushable seam sealer on all the panel joins and get it sealed well, A panels, wings behind and infront of the headlights. You can paint over this stuff so no problems there and it will seal all the little joins and stop water getting there and rusting it out.

I have posted a beating the tim worm with some links in it to a company called frost www.frost.co.uk you can get the stuff from there.

Good Luck

Keep the pictures coming....!!

Ooo I got mine shot blasted, for £200, including primer (red oxide) and they even picked the shell up and dropped it off. Was really nice to work on a clean body.

Bideford as in Devon?
My Gran used to live there!!!!! :) ;)

I've been told that etch primer should be the first coat on bare metal as it eats into the metal surface, then a zinc based primer. A mate told me this who works in industry sot blasting and treating industrial pipe lines and vessels, knows a thing or two about painting cars as well :cheese:
