Hello,

As we are all aware by now... summer is over (well, they call it summer anyway) and winter is starting to hit

What are the things I need to do to keep the engine running sweetly, prevent starting issues etc etc to make sure I dont run into any trouble over the coming months? And just keep it in as good a condition as possible all round? It is used on a daily basis and am aware that a regular hose down from salt etc will be needed.

Unfortunatly the mini is kept in the drive, and not garaged. I dont have a cover for it yet, but where can I get a half decent one from for as little money as possible?

Thanks
Joe

Covers are on Fleabay. The rest is really just common sense. A good spraying of WD40 on leads, coil etc is always a good shout!

Even cheaper is to cut an old rubber floor mat & cable tie it inside the grille  stops the wet getting in & keeps it warmer :w00t:

Miniman Retford is spot on. A piece of old vinyl etc works a treat. If you want a "pukka" one try Fleabay, there are loads on in varoius colours etc.
Cheers.....Dave

No don't use WD40 unless you really have to. That stuff will cause more problems in the long run.

As above, dont use WD40, there are more usefule tricks: just smear some vaseline around the edge of the dizzy cover, where it meets to dizzy, or nip a glove to fit it over the dizzy.
I dont have a wheather shield, i've just cut an alluminium sheet and fitted with some screws inside the grille (mine is custom made) just in front of dizzy and coil, no problems at all, in the pouring rain and running over puddles.

Don't do that either, not on the outside of the dizzy at least as that will go wrong faster than WD40 will. Fit a rubber glove if you must but the best thing to do is keep the ignition system and carb controls clean. Keep everything clean, it really does work better.

Yes Dan, i meant on the inside, is the inside of the edge of the dizzy cap that slides over the body, and the vaseline provides a better seal to avoid umidity getting through and melting on the inside. Anything like grease, oil and vaseline will only trap dirt if applyed on the outside.

I still swear by WD40. I've used for years on Stags, Spitfires, Cortinas etc, etc. Never had a problem with it. Save the vas for something else!!!
