[b]Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):Hi all, i am preparing to remove the engine from my car and i hav come unstuck, i want to leave the subframe attached but for the life of me i cannot remove the spring pin for the gear selector, i have tried as most publications suggest to use a punch and hammer it out, put it wont budge.

Any ideas on how to remove without damaging the rest or having to cut selector.

[b]No?

As above, punch is the answer I got mine from a mini specialist as you do need the correct fit Having spent best part of a morning trying to punch with a nail then drilling the pin all to no avail, perhaps a good spray with WD the night before you attempt punching Cheers Steve

Hi,

I just replaced my selector seals a couple of weeks ago with no problems. I put it in reverse, wedged a piece of wood on the left side between the differential and the selector coupling (if I remember well) and used a 5/16" punch from the right side. Easier than I expected.

iv used drill bits and odds and sods from the garage but really just making the job hard work even snapped something in the centre which made the job allot harder so i would recomend buying the proper size punch can only be a few quid and will make the job allot easier jus a good hard wack and it should budge

Also secure the selector rod with a small piece of wood, so when you're striking the roll pin the selector rod doesn't bounce about and you'll get better force on the roll pin too.

Sorry mate too cold to go into the garage now to measure the one I used but it was from this set I bought

MACHINE MART ANNOYING GEAR SELECTOR I HATE YOU LINK

I'll measure it tomorrow if you want but the minispares one above is what you need for that, unless you want a set of various punches with one being the one you need and others that help for other jobs then just get the machine mart ones?

I had a wicked time getting mine to come out as well. I found applying some heat to it to make the task ALOT easier.

I just used a little propane torch (plumbing type) to heat it up a little and it came out with ease.
