Anyone know where I can buy a dial test indicator which reads in imperial? I know machine mart sell them would these be ok? Only the read in metric? Its to do the normal stuff like cam timing, endfloat's etc.

Paul.

Just work with the metric one ! Why do you want imperial ?? Folks of my great age were of course brought up on Imperial - but even I can work with Metric if I have to!

as far as my limited knowlege goes, it doesnt matter what type you use as its purely to measure dwell and TDC anyway

its swings and roundabouts really,

Personally I like to work with an imperial one as I think in thou, but usually the metric dti's are graduated to .01mm which is just under 0.4 of a thou so have better resolution.

Whatever you do, buy a decent one! I bought a cheapo one off flea-bay and it was useless. Ended up borrowing one from a neighbour and his was one from like the sixties and was so much easier to use!

Could probably get away with a cheap magnetic stand :)

Sorted it, bought a draper one (on order) in imperial, as said, with engines I prefer to work in old money, dont know why, just do. Got the guage and mag stand for around £35.
