Hi guys,

Just wondering, can you get chipped gearbox fins repaired? its just 1 or 2 on mine are slighty grazed/chipped, barely noticable really and theres no damage done to the box itself, I was just thinking while its off I can take it in and proably get it tig welded? If it wont cost much then I wont have nothing to lose.

Thanks.

Paul.

Yes it can be done, however it won't make a lot of difference to the cooling effect and really only needs to done if you are looking for "concourse" condition...... First thing to do though is check the case is ok where it does matter, threads and bearing points, some of the earlier case could be a little weak in certain areas.

Although from a safety point of view grinding is only to undertaken with the correct equipment.......... a normal grinding wheel will clog up, the aluminium will get hot and expand, the wheel can then simply explode..... damage to your gearcase, work area and you can certainly make it unviable...

Also aluminium dust in the air can, I have been told lead to illnesses such as altzeimers....... and that other one where you lose your memory, I just can't remember the name of right now >_<

Be smart - Wear the correct IPE (Individual Protective Equipment) typically ear, eye and lung protection :P
