G'Day from Queensland. I'm the proud owner of a 1970 Mark 2 Cooper S with a standard close ratio 4 speed box and a Mini Spares quick-shift. Over the past few months I've noticed an persistent rattle from the gear stick necessitating me to press my knee against it while driving to suppress the noise. I replaced the anti-rattle pin which I saw was worn but the rattle persists. If at all possible I would like to keep the quick-shift.
Any ideas anyone?
Regards

Have you replaced the two rubber bushes that hold the gear lever to the floor? May fix it as if they are worn then it can vibrate and rattle against the exhaust

Where are those? Being a 1970 car wouldn't this be a remote shift? There's the single large cotton reel at the back of the remote but I can't remember any other rubber bushes. Are they part of the Quick-Shift kit?
The fix I've always heard of (but have not personally had to resort to) is taking a piece of old aluminum beer can and forming it into a cup to go on the lower ball on the shift lever. This fills the gap between the socket in the remote shift extension and the lever. Again, I've never had to do this but several of my acquaintances report that it works.

My remote linkage use to do this and it was because there was a nylon bush at the top of the ever was worn.
I sorted it the way that dklawson has stated, though it soon came back.
I ended up waiting about 4 weeks for minispares to get the part in stock and replaced it.
