Looking good there mate.

Just foind your thread over on turbo minis. Please please please get a thread up on that spaceframe car of yours.

Cheers man!

Haha the spaz frame is a bit of a sore spot at the mo. I need to get this one done, then my mates toyota starlet conversion needs to be done, then finally I can get this one done, fit it with an N/A engine, drive it around for a bit, sell it, and build what I really want to do as i'm not really happy with spaz frame one! When I do some more work on it I will get some pictures up.

Great work, i like the subframe mods, what have you done to it modifications wise? Also would it be possible for you to give me some dimensions of your weber box while its accessible? Hope thats not to much trouble and it would be greatly appreciated, i'm just wanting to start making mine now. :)

Cheers Arris! :o

Thanks George, I've remade everything infront of the towers with tube, not really any benefits but it should be a damn sight stiffer. I've made the tie rod mounts from 6mm rather than the paper that BL made them from LOL.

I will get the tape out when i'm next down there, however I just used a battery box. Did you want measurements of where it is in the car or of the actual box itself?

Love the look of this car. Been following your spaz frame build aswell. I love the subframe but (sorry if you've already mentioned it) what was the reason for doing it? Surely its not any lighter, is it? If it is, what tubing are you using? CDS? Which tube bender are you using?

Sorry for all the questions, I've got a 16v mini and Im looking to redo my subframe in tube but Im trying to do some research first.

Hi King, cheers for the kind words! I haven't had it on the scales, but it seems about the same weight as standard. There are a few reasons for doing it...1. the original was bent infront of the towers, 20mm out of square... 2. It's a hell of a lot less likely to bend than the standard BL junk and 3. It looks cool (well, I reckon so anyway) lol.

I used 32 OD CHS, there really isn't any need to make the frame from CDS imo. For a roll over bar/cage, yes I would use it, but not for a subframe. All the box section frames are seamed section plus CHS (circular hollow section) is used for a lot of structural engineering! Just make sure you keep the seam on the inside of the bends. If you have it on the outside it can sometimes split. I did all the bends on a hydraulic manual bender with tight fitting formers.

HTH, Owen.
