Tasty spec mate....geussing it'll be all about the torque though with a long stroke crank!

Well with a 286 cam and 1.5 ratio rockers, it's going to be an absolute screamer!

My mate has a 1380 with same cam and rockers and it flies when it gets on cam! :D

Badish news really...

All was going well till last weekend...the rad sprung a leak so I fixed it up, then the next few days it was playing up...mainly blowing the cap off and air locking the heater. Then on Monday on the way home from work I lost a cylinder...ugh. Limped her to the unit, pulled the head off hoping it was the head gasket...but no, there's a gert hole in no3 piston :D .

The other bad news is I sold my Janspeed head as I had my eye on the ally one in the classifieds, but the day I sold it the bloody ally head sold  .

Nevermind...will be on the look out for a Miglia head now

Right, things have been up in the air for the last few months. Busy finishing off 2 subframes, sorting out a new gaff and trying to clear out the c**p from the unit!

Basically, after the 998 blew up, my mate let me borrow his 1380...but I soon blew that up (whoops lol) so now i'm back to a 998 (witha few mods lol).

Plan for the mini has changed. I'm gonna take it back to bare shell this winter, Get it dipped then start from scratch with a load of shell mods.

The 1430's got a revised spec for track use.

But the mini will still look exactly the same.

Sorry for lack of pictures  .

ive just finished building a 1330 with a 74mm stroked crank, ill be using the sw-10 cam, as its more efficient on idle, but similar to the 286, whats your like 0-60 wise? need to get some moneys together and get myself a crane and week off work lol, ta,sam

Hi Sam, sounds like a good spec. I haven't got the 1430 built yet, but i'm going with a 296 scatter now. The 1380 had a 286 in it and it was a sheer let down and despite what people say, piece of cake to drive in traffic (that's with a 45 as well).

yeah, the 286 is quite a tame cam, ill be running twin 1 1/2"s, as i know these carbs a lot better than a weber.

well, at th mo my current 1293 has a 3.65, which is great for country lane and track use, but revs real high on the motorway,
the new lump will be running 3.2 diff, out of an spi gearbox, as that should make it a little less rev happy on the motorway.

theres a site somewhere with a gear ratio calculator, ill find it for you.....

I've been on that and combined with the help from various other people i've decided on the gearbox/diff combo:

Minispares close ratio spur gear set and a 3.7:1 FD.

I was originally going to use a 3.4:1 FD but have been told that it will not perform very well with the 296 cam. Incidently, I have a 3.6:1 in my 998 and it goes like f***! I love it!

yes, they think that itll be difficult to keep it on cam, as the 296 supposably comes in at about 3k if i remember rightly, personally i would have gone with the 3.4.

the 3.6 is pretty fun, just a bit of a drag on the motorway, 80 mph at 5k, a bit silly i think...

I know what you mean, but my new gaff means I can get the train to work so I won't need to use the mini as an everyday!

Plus, i've got to try and keep up with a 1380 7 port haha.

Sorry to here about your engines blowing up. When things go wrong they do go wrong don't they  Projects looking great though and you'll be proper chuffed once your steaming round on your new engine.
