well i have a 1989 mini but think the engine is 1984 i have a slight leak from the drive shaft oil seal but i want to replace the seal myself, i have looked at the haynes manual but im stuck, it says there are different types of drive shafts and need different tools to get the off, how do i find out which drive shaft i have? im at the stage where the hub is off its just a case of getting the drive shaft off now. Please help as i want this done asap

if its an 89 it will be a pot joint so you need this seal...

Make sure you drain the oil, as you have the hub out you now just need to lever/ knock the pot joint out of the diff and lever out the seal.
then knock the new seal in until its flush.
i'd recomend getting a couple of seals incase you shag one putting it in

how easy is it to get the shaft out and whats the best way to do it?

Personally I use a long bar, get it against the back of the pot joint (as inline with the shaft as possible) and give it a good whack, it normally goes after 3-4 hard whacks with a largish hammer.
some people lever them out, but i've never had much luck with that.
all that locates it is a spring clip in a groove, you need to "jump" it out of its groove.

What does the spring clip hold and how do u mean jump it out??
