i had an idea of putting a Rx7 engine into a mini as that engine is flat and would fit snug into a minis front end and change it to rear wheel drive and it would just about weight the same as a normal mini and would kick out about 300bhp with a few tweeks and leave those MR2 turbos in the dust

Who else agrees? or have i just got my facts wrong again haha

lol
anyone else thinking of a rotary turbo?
running about 0.5 psi can be up to 500bhp
and 2-3 psi up to 700bhp
only issues being getting the power down and having internals that can cope such brutal force
i want a drift car :xmas:
too young =]

I have always wondered about this.
i recon the old wankle engine would be an awesome upgrade in the mini.

I have heard of two people who were attempting the build with an RX7 lump.

The first, a guy in Japan had his own build diary on his website. He seemed so close to completing the build but then the site was never updated again. hopefully he didnt complete it, take it out on its maiden run and have things go horribly wrong....

Without wanting to sound like an arse, you either have psi and bar mixed up or someone has being telling you porkies about boost figures. :)

Not just me that thought those figures seemed a bit odd then :)

Youll struggle to make 500bhp at 0.5 bar as well, nearer the mark at 1.5 i would think.

one problem you'll have is the size of the gearbox, they are massive. but something like a ford box (sierra cossy springs to mind) would work i think.

Or mate it with a FWD gearbox - and get a ultra-compact power unit :)

If you want to go totally crazy, forget the 13b engine from an RX7 and get hold of a 20b (triple rotor) engine from a Mazda Cosmo. This car was only available to the Japanese home market. Some Aussies use them in light aircraft.
