You need to tell us what carb is on it - and what needle is in the carb.

Have you bought a Haynes manual for the mini?
Best cash you'll spend...

And it's fine to be new at something. That statement alone will mean people lighten up on you. :)
Welcome to minis!

yea i have a haynes manual was in the boot under a load of old bits lol. the manual dont seem to help to much with the carb tho. i went for the if in doubt give it a clout methord but it hurt so that dint work ill have a play with the air/fuel mix see if it improves. had a 3 day mad rush trying to get it ready for mot a mission that seems near on imposible i got 1 day left to get it all sorted and drivable what have i let me self in for lol

You need to feel if the piston inside the carb is free to lift up easily with a finger - and should fall back down with a nice 'clunk' when you let go. Also - add some light oil in the damper by unscrewing the top 'nut' and lifting the damper out. Add oil - replace damper. Also make sure the throttle cable is moving freely - and has a little 'free play' when the engine is idling. And make sure the choke is going right off too.
