Basically yesterday i was putting on some new engine steady bushings and it started to get a bit dark so put the lights on, which ran my battery right down.

I Boost started it with a charger and it sem fine. so left it for 5-10 mins then started driving.

It drives fine just when it comes to going back to idle (ie junctions) it dies and cannot be started again, just like the battery is dead.

Basically it wont idle, it will run at over 1200 revs but no lower

Any suggestions?

sam

Maybe its your cold temp sensor. Ive just had a pretty similiar fault with mine, but mine was to do with the wiring that feeds the sensor.

Does the fan come on as soon as you turn the key? Even first thing in the morning?

How long did you drive it around after the battery died?

Have you checked the fuse for your fan?

I didnt drive it far, i went from where i boost started to the end of a road. about a mile. As soon as i got to the junction and put my foot on the clutch it was gone.

No i havent checked the fuse. I know the thermostat is on its way out. I was going to put the new one on today but was too busy.

Make sure the earth strap is in good condition and has not been missed out when fitting the new bushes

Seconded the earth strap, easy to forget as access is very restricted on an mpi.Easier to add a new one somwhere else instead!
