Hi mate,

Firstly, sorry to hear about your dad.

Secondly looks like you both did a nice job on the car the first time round and by the look of the parts you have for it,its going to be even better this time.

Not a criticism just an observation but in the cambelt picture,is the belt touching the hose slightly and knocking the belt out of line?If it is then it will destroy both in no time, really you need a bit of clearance especially once the engine starts rocking around under load.Apart from that it looks good to me!

Cheers Ross.

hi ya,

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Ross: Firstly I love your car! yes the belt is touching but its only on there to get an idea for hose angles etc at the min and its nice to know people are looking at the pictures that closely!! lol

Cheers,

Ian

Hi,

Ok so not too much of an update really... but here goes.

Yesterday I mounted the ecu in the glovebox as its out of the way and should be nice and dry

Posted Image

Closer view

Posted Image

Once I'd done this I ran the loom for the engine sensors etc....its all really well made and I just needed to plug in the sensors. I've only got two that I'm not too sure about, the crank sensor and the water temp sensor, but I've been told they will be easy to tell apart once the ecu has power etc.

Posted Image

The loom still needs a bit of tidying up and clipping out of the way but I'm not going to do that until I'm certian it works!

I've got this lead to connect it to my laptop once its done.....should be long enough for the laptop to sit on the passenger seat.

Next jobs gonna be the fuel system. Not really looking forward to it! lol I got a tank ready modified with a toyota pump in it with the engine (to supply enough fuel!) so really its just a case of running the flow and return fuel lines and think I'm gonna need a relay for the fuel pump, so I'll need to get one of those and need to decide if I'm going to run the fuel lines as solid ones under the car or the nice fancy over-braid lines inside the car. hmmm...

Thanks for looking!!

Right then...

The lack of progress has been rubbish! I blame uni for getting in the way but having had a week off from uni and then also this week off too I have made some progress and hoping I'm to make alot more by the end of the week.

So some pictures of what I have got done.

Posted Image

An overall view of how it stood before I started.

Posted Image

My new brakes fitted.

Posted Image

Again....

Posted Image

With the wheel on.

Posted Image

New master cylnder, new plate ,my nightmare brake pipes (and the very expensive new brake pedal connected to this lot) (still need to be bleed through)

Posted Image

Catch tank fitted up

Posted Image

Fuel tank fitted, along with the lines, and filter

Posted Image

And the relay wired up...

Posted Image

Which meant that I needed another fuse box

Posted Image

Still need to sort out this wire....lol

Posted Image

Also connected the exhaust up

Posted Image

Manifolds a bit tight...

Posted Image

And it sits a bit low at the moment. But we'll see if it hits too much when its running!

Posted Image

Also had a bit of the dreaded rust to fix...just patched the sill for no but will most likely be getting a new one next winter before it gets too bad. (now sanded down and painted!)

So a few niggles!!!

Posted Image

Even things that you don't think will be affected are...this si the bonnet catch hitting on the inlet trumpets...sorted now but havent taken a picture yet!

Posted Image

Wonky Throttle cable (works fine but I don't like it!)

Posted Image

This stupid bloody hose is being such a pain as you can see its hitting on the cambelt!!

Posted Image

The rest of the cooling system coming along...

Posted Image

My nice shiny rad...thats been nothing but a pain!!

Posted Image

Still have to fit this......

Posted Image

And hope this charges!!

Should be more updates in the next week as I get more done. I should be spending the day on it tomorrow and maybe wednesday.

Thanks for looking!!

Ian

Right then more progress today...

Posted Image

Mounted the Fuel pressure regulator

Posted Image

Easy to see through the grill! lol. I'm hoping it will be ok where it is and not get too hot etc, I will have to see how it goes and move it if needs be!

Posted Image

Then had to attack the bonnet with an angle grinder. Erm, only slightly nervous about this job but it had to be done!

Posted Image

The bit I had to cut off as it hits on the cam cover!

Posted Image

Connected up the top hose with my silly Kenlowe adapter thingy

Posted Image

The only way I can stop the hose hitting the cambelt....there is a gap, honest! :)

Posted Image
With the to do list getting shorter I thought I'd start to sort the engine bay out a little bit

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Looks a little bit tidier under there and also allows me to make sure that nothing is to short, chafing etc.

Posted Image

Had to make a few little brackets and bits heres one that I made to hold the wiring loom.

Posted Image

Another photo of my brakes as I was down there anyway!

So tomorrows jobs include fitting the Kenlowe fan, secure the fuel hose to the bottom of the car with p clips, fit a bypass hose and then filling the system to check for leaks. Once thats done I'll bleed up the brakes (when my assistant finishes work!) and fill up the oil, connect the battery and we may have life!!

Not going to rush it though as I want to make sure everything is right so will have to see how it goes and I have a feeling that I will need a new battery too..great more expense!!

Thanks for looking,

Ian

Thanks mini-Mad-Craig!! Yes there will be >_<

So todays progress has been a bit limited!

Just bled the brakes up.....with the help of my assistant. And I now have a very sharp set of brakes!!

Also finished the wiring and popped out to get a battery. so far nothings blown up or caught fire so its all good! even the fuel pump worked as did.....

Posted Image

The ecu! this is the screen you get on the computer! (sad I know!!)

So tommorrw its just get some petrol, fill it with oil and water and start it up....

Fingers crossed!!

Thanks for looking,

Ian

hi,

Thanks Mini-jon! Its does have its moments but should be worth it in the end!

Right, so I'm now back at uni for two weeks and I couldn't start it due to a duff starter. Despite calling in a few favors the parts supplier couldn't get the new motor in until tomorrow so that'll have to wait until I get back, plus I have a very small leak to fix on the bottom hose then I can start it!!

A bit fed up with not getting it started but I don't think I have much more to get it sorted now! So progress but not enough for my liking!! lol

Thanks for looking!!

Ian

Sorry to hear about your dad though, do you still have those window tints?
