On my '96 (German-market) SPI, I've installed a set of Spax dampers, but I'm having trouble re-fitting the fuel tank. It seems that the top mounting stud for the rear dampers is taller than on the Konis originally fitted to the car, and it's preventing the fuel tank from seating in the correct position. Specifically, I can't "rotate" the tank forward enough for the filler neck to get through the grommet in the body at the right angle.

Has anyone else had this problem? What is the best solution?

either cut the top of the shock thread off or dent the tank, personally i'd cut down the stud..

I had this problem. I had tightened up the shocks quite tight and squashed the rubber mounts too much. All I did was loosened the shocks enough to let the rubber expand but made sure they were still firmly located. That did the trick for me.
