Hi there!

my 1030ST broke up yesterday (zero oil pressure) so i have to put another engine while repair the other.

so my choice is a 1098,close ratio gearbox, with my current head (12g940 stage3) and 1.3 roller.i have one 997 cooper cam and a 998 cooper cam and dont know what is the best for the 1098.and the degrees after full lift to use with the current setup, weber 40dcoe,maniflow lcb and exhaust system, stage 3 head 12g940.

the engine is already pocket and ready to fit, only head and cam to fit.

the calculated CR is 10:1.

please help.

cheers

The original 997 cam was always said to be better than the 998 Cooper cam as the engine geometry allowed for a slightly softer cam in the 998 to give better torque with the same max bhp.
The 997 has an overlap of 37 deg. It is recommended to be timed in at 110 deg ATDC, although 108 would probably be a bit better to allow for chain stretch. Set valve clearances cold at 0.015" with 1.3:1 rockers.

i'm going to use my vernier instead the single chain,to prevent chain stretch and to accurate timming.
i will set up @108ATDC.but read somewere if we use a weber dcoe it could be better to advance the cam slightly 2 or 3 deg.it will be better than the 110 or the 108?

thanks

Since the figure is 'After TDC', you must reduce the number of degrees to advance the cam, so 106, which is the figure for almost all Kent cams is what you need.
