So I was rudely awoken this morning by Kimberley as she couldnt get into Bev. :(

The thing had literally turned into a block of ice. god knows why, but I had some lock de-icer on my bedside table so I went and tried to defrost it.
5 minutes later, and after half a tin of lock de-icer followed by heating the lock up with my lighter I got the door open.
Only to realise the inside was just as frozen as the outside :)

Luckily, for some reason, Bernard wasnt frozen at all. Seeing as the 2 are parked next to each other I fail to see how this is possible. So in the end I took her work in Bernard.

So winters officialy here now.... get your ice scrapers, deicer and lock deicer ready...

And can anyone recomend some screenwash thats got deicer in it?

I went outside to give suz a lift to work, and promptly gave up. By the time I'd got into the mini, we could have walked! That said, my car seems to be better than some of the others in the road. I wonder if my leaked-in puddle will be frozen?!

Imagine my excitement from emerging from my last night shift until the weekend 5 mins early :(

I pranced towards Vernon triumphantly, lovingly put the key into his lock.....or flipping well tried! I couldn't even get it all the way in let alone turn it (must not make smutty comment) so I used a pipette and hot water and got it to turn after 10 mins of teasing it gently.

I put my work bags into him to notice he wasn't just frozen on the outside......25 minutes of scraping and de-iceing later I could finally see the world outside from the driver's seat :)

Despite all this the little trooper started first time. Crikey, I love my mini

My office is a shed at the end of my garden - I came in this morning to it being -4 degrees on the thermometer on the wall, and thats with leaving the computers on all night (if I don't the hard drives are too cold to spin up in the morning!)

TFT screens work funny when they are this cold - super slow to react. It's like watching a late 70s music video. I've really got to get around to insulating this place!

I've got a really nice fitted one for Vernon, but I know if I take it to work it'll get swiped.

Actually with such a hard frost would it freeze the cover to the mini? :(

I use halfords lock deicer, only about £2

But the best thing by far is simply a lighter. Especially if you have chrome handles. It wont crack / char the chrome in any way. Just hold it on it for about 30 seconds and that usually works.

I'm thinking about getting kimbo a cover for Bev, maybe just one of those top half ones so that the windows arent frozen

Is lock deicer really that bad for chrome locks then? :- I mean, is it safe to use every now and again, not like every day?

And is normal deicer safe to use of locks? My dad's just asked

Ive never heard of de-icer hurting chrome?

The whole point of the lock de-icer is the shape of the nib. It allows it to push past the cover and actually spray into the tumbler.
But you'll still need normal de-icer / a lighter to defrost the push button to get in! lol

Ah its ok, I misread you post, you were referring to the use of a lighter not deicer   FAIL!

Oh driver's side lock will be fine with normal deicer then as my little cover doesn't cover anymore! :withstupid:

It is cold. Even the back doors on my clubby estate were frozen. Started ok though. Gotta love minis.
