right,

i dont know much about LPG apart from its compressed petroleum gas with a higher RON rating than super unleaded, my plan is to build a blow through supercharger setup using turbo carb plenum etc and a blow through mounted at the front and move the alternator to the back.

However,

i could run a more suitable compression ratio if i could run a higher RON fuel hmmmmmmm 1 + 1 = well usuall trouble but 2 is near egnough

so the question is can i convert a hif44 turbo carb to run on LPG and if so what do i need

or would i need to convert to injection to use lpg

help its hurting my head

i would have thought injection is the best way to manage lpg. i might go that route myself. im running a sucked carb supercharger setup upon a 1400.and i got some injection stuff to play with . thanks for the idea though.

but i recon it is best with injection for LPG....

in even thinking of hydrogen fueling too. for zero emmisions........must be the way to go.....plus nasa use it for shuttles.... why not mini's?

the amount of gas is controled by the atomizer turns the liqiud lpg into a gas and the vacum of the engine

the reason that no one has done a lpg convertion for a mini even n/a is there not enough room for all the stuff tank ,atomizer ,pipes etc

who needs a boot when you want more power lol

stig the 40litre spare wheel tanks should just fit in the boot,

how bigs the atomiser and bits

mini13 problem with this is its lpg only not duel fuel

to big to get in the engine bay where it needs to go with all the super charger stuff in there as well

you cant run just lpg has to be duel fuel the engine needs to start on petrol then switch over to gas once running

hence why no one has done it

It'll start on LPG.

Whenever i've fitted LPG conversion to cars at work we always tell the customer to start it on petrol.
Starting it on LPG is not recomended in the slightest and to be honest, I wouldnt recomend LPG at all.

It makes engines rattle for no reason what so ever. Most of the time it can balls up your emissions because it bamboozles the O2 sensors into thinking its running lean, so it chicks more fuel into compensate!
And it causes excessive wear to the bore, pistons and valves. God knows how many dualfuel corsa valves ive replaced....

Also, you have to be corgi registered to work on it.

And if you were going to do it, then i'd do it with injection and MPi at that. Not worth the hassle trying to do it with a carb.

And the stuff will easily fit. The biggest thing is the tank. The rest of it is no bigger than running an A/C setup. Though it may get tight with a charger setup. Possibly extend the nose by 4" or get a clubman front?

Thanks for the advice lawnmowercrap, think i will avoid LPG not spending all that money on my engine build only to balls it up with dodgy fuel

thanks for the headsup

Can't comment on engine wear. I learned to drive in a 1.2 (Mk1) Civic running lpg so it's certainly possible in a small car. Gas isn't good for power as it displaces more air than a liquid fuel, effectively reducing the engine size. It would offer some advantages. It'd mix better and has less inertia, being less dense, could be useful in an A series for evening out the AFR between the cylinders. Less inertia could also be useful in a compressor.
