Nice website about Austin Mini Cooper 'S' 24PK. ;)

"This website is an attempt to consolidate the competition history of a unique car – together with recollections and anecdotes of her drivers and others associated with her. In my brief 3 years of ownership I have been constantly amazed by the willingness of those who both drove, worked on, or just had recollections of 24PK – to offer their time, reminiscences and if I was really lucky, photos and other memrobilia that enabled me to consolidate the following historical record."

It had to be re-shelled after its huge accident on the 1964 Manx rally. In fact, Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams and I towed it back to the UK with me sitting in 24PK. The roof was squashed in and it had no driver's door. We were to leave it at a gagage in Liverpool, but whilst searching for the garage we were stopped by the Old Bill who said that we could not tow a car in that state (fair comment really!). However, they led us to the garage. The car was then re-shelled by some guys who worked in the BMC Comps Dep't at Abingdon and fitted with all the latest works rally bits. The fact that it was re-shelled after a big rally accident just adds to its history and its place in Mini rallying. A true 1960's rally icon.
Roy, who now owns it, is a great chap with a passion for Minis in general and 24PK in particular.

What a beauty !!! I wish I'd kept my 1964 Mk1 970 Cooper S, it was broken up and shell scrapped off in the late 1970's :tumble:  :)

For those of you from the Grimsby area (and old enough to remember the 1970's ??) this photo was taken in Weelsby Woods Park circa 1978/79 with the 970S alongside my mates 1974 1275GT (another Mini that's no longer with us :xxx: )

I think you mean a 1965 Cooper 'S' 970. The 1275 and 970 weren't introduced until 1964, after the 1071 appeared in 1963. Oh, how I wanted one back then, but had to make do with an 850, then got a new 998 Cooper in mid-'64. Didn't get a real 'S' until 1969 and even than it was my wife's and was a '63 with a 1275 engine. I just had a Saab 96 V4 as a road car then.
Ah, the '60's................
